Posadas
Overview
Posadas is a friendly, authentic Andalusian village on the edge of the Guadalquivir valley. It isn’t a tourist town full of major sights, but rather a place where you experience everyday Spanish life up close. White houses, small squares and a relaxed pace give Posadas its easy-going character.
Posadas has around 6,000 inhabitants and a history that goes back to Roman times. In the Middle Ages it was an important stopping place for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. That layered history can still be felt in the village’s architecture — from the Gothic church to the Moorish influences in the narrow streets.
The village sits right where the Sierra Morena meets the fertile Guadalquivir valley, which gives it a remarkably varied setting: nature, the river and the campiña (the rolling farmland) are literally around the corner.
What can you do here?
Posadas is all about atmosphere and simplicity. Stroll through the village, grab a seat on a terrace and enjoy local tapas among the villagers.
Every Wednesday there’s a weekly market where you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables, local produce and clothing — a fun way to experience village life up close.
Bear in mind that many shops and small businesses close in the middle of the day for the siesta. Most shops are open:
- in the morning from approx. 09:00 to 14:00
- and again in the evening from approx. 17:00 to 20:00
Restaurants and bars are often open for lunch and dinner, so the village stays lively during the siesta too.
The surroundings also invite you to take walks along the Guadalquivir and short trips into the countryside around the village.
Who is Posadas ideal for?
Posadas is perfect for guests who love peace and quiet, authenticity and the real Spain. The village makes a pleasant contrast to the bustle of bigger cities such as Córdoba and Seville, and above all it’s a lovely place to end the day at a relaxed pace.
