Highgarden is less than ten kilometres from here. In seasons 5 to 7, Andalusia stood in for Dorne, Meereen and King’s Landing — and the finest locations are all within a day trip of Posada Aurora.

Castillo de Almodóvar
The castle had a double role in season 7: the grounds became Highgarden, the seat of House Tyrell, while the dungeons stood in for Casterly Rock. This is where Olenna Tyrell delivered her famous last words to Jaime Lannister. The castle is so well preserved that barely any CGI was needed, and it now offers a dedicated Game of Thrones tour with scene photos throughout the site.

The Roman bridge over the Guadalquivir was filmed from the air as the Long Bridge of Volantis, which joins the two halves of the free city. It is free to visit and at its best at sunset, with the Mezquita behind it.

Real Alcázar
This Moorish palace was the first Andalusian location in the series: Dorne was filmed here in the autumn of 2014. Four spaces appear on screen — the Ambassadors’ Hall, the Mercury Pool, the Baths of María de Padilla and the gardens. Book well in advance; it is the most visited monument in the city.

The Roman amphitheatre of Itálica — once the third largest in the empire, seating 25,000 spectators — hosted the great summit of the penultimate season. CGI turned the theatre into the ruins of the Dragonpit. The Cardo Maximus was filmed here as well.

This 16th-century palace, where Mudéjar, Gothic and Renaissance styles meet, provided additional courtyards for Dorne. A short walk from the Alcázar and far quieter — a good second stop on the same day.

Plaza de Toros
The 1903 bullring, built from local sandstone and seating 5,000, was transformed in October 2014, over seventeen days of filming, into the fighting pit of Meereen. Only the upper tiers were added digitally — the rest is real. Inside there is a small exhibition with photos, costumes and props from the series.

The historic sandstone quarries just outside Osuna — the source of the stone for the bullring — also served as a set. Their carved walls and caves make this a remarkable place, quite apart from the series.

Filming also took place elsewhere in this whitewashed town: by the collegiate church and the old university. Osuna makes a day trip in its own right — and combines well with the bullring and the quarries.
