La Sierrezuela
Overview
La Sierrezuela is a peaceful, green and hilly area in the heart of Andalusia, right next to Posadas. This is where you experience real Spanish outdoor life: quiet, open space and a varied landscape of pine trees, oaks and Mediterranean vegetation. A lovely place to slow down, surrounded by nature yet close to the village.
The park is part of the European Natura 2000 network and Andalusia’s protected natural areas — recognition of its exceptional ecological, historical and scenic value. It covers 384 hectares, six of which are set up for recreation and public use. The park is also home to old mining caves, where copper and lead have been extracted since prehistoric times.
What can you do here?
La Sierrezuela offers wonderful walking and cycling on well-maintained trails, starting right at its edge. We organise horse riding tours through La Sierrezuela itself, a relaxed way to explore the nature and the landscape. We also rent out mountain bikes for anyone who wants to discover the area more actively.
A walk here is made extra special by the prehistoric dolmens. These ancient stone structures lie hidden in the landscape and make an outing adventurous and educational, especially for children.
Wildlife & nature
La Sierrezuela is home to various wild animals typical of Andalusia’s Mediterranean landscape. With a bit of luck you’ll spot rabbits, hares or the tracks of foxes and wild boar. Birdwatchers will enjoy it too, thanks to the many birds of prey and songbirds living in the area. Spotting animals or looking for tracks together makes a walk here even more fun.
Location & travel time
La Sierrezuela is just 300 metres from Posada Aurora and easy to reach on foot or by bike. Thanks to this location, the area makes a perfect base for outings in the surroundings.
